Small joy #132: Snail mail that’s not a bill

Small Days, Big Vibes: Fun Awareness Days for Jan–Mar

Written by:l
Stickers aren’t just for notebooks…

I think it’s pretty clear that the studio doesn’t need an excuse to celebrate a holiday, festival or something random to bring a little booster of joy to our days. I was at on online networking event and was sharing my love of little celebrations (in this case specifically about how I have a fake birthday in Jan where I redeem my free Greggs doughnut), and it was apparent that other people don’t do this!

As well as being a bit of fun in general, observing days like this can be a great way to align your brand with certain values or vibes, and is a reeeally easy way to be inspired for content.

Choosing your awareness days

There are a lot of official and unofficial awareness days out there, but the important thing when it comes to your business, is to only choose ones that make sense for your brand. Don’t jump on every one just because they exist — this will dilute your brand, put off your audience, and take up a whole lot of time that you probably don’t have.

I recommend taking a look at what’s coming up in the year and choosing only the ones that are a no brainer. For example, every year Yoco Studio observes International Women’s Day, Wear it Pink Day and Play Day. So on brand, right.

To make things easy for you, here’s a list of some awareness days coming up this quarter, along with some examples of how you might use them as direct or subtle inspiration for your brand.

March 21 – International Colour Day

  • Have all your staff wear a certain colour today
  • Write a blog post about why you chose your brand colours
  • Do a poll to ask your followers which product colour should be next

As you can see, you don’t have to take these awareness days literally, nor do you need to actually tell anyone that you are observing it — they can simply be used as inspiration. And you get a ready made excuse to try something new without reinventing your entire marketing strategy.

Easy next steps:

  1. Look at some upcoming days (or even quicker, see the list above)
  2. Circle the no brainer dates
  3. Celebrate in any way that feels good!

A well timed sticker drop, a kindness freebie, or a colour themed post might seem small, but little and consistent moments are exactly what keeps a brand growing.
